The Fraser Valley is full of portrait locations that do not need to feel staged, stiff, or overdone. Around Chilliwack and the nearby Fraser Valley, there are river trails, lake edges, mountain views, forest paths, wildflower areas, farms, heritage corners, and quiet downtown spaces that can all become beautiful backdrops with the right light and direction.
I’m creating a Fraser Valley Photography Field Guide to showcase real outdoor portrait ideas using local places close to home. The goal is to help people see what is possible without needing a studio setup or a complicated session plan.
This guide will focus on relaxed, natural portraits for families, couples, pets, maternity, and solo sessions. Each location has a different feel. Some places are better for soft evening light and quiet portraits. Others work well for movement, pets, kids, wide scenic views, or casual lifestyle images.
The project is also a way to build a practical local reference for future sessions. Instead of guessing where to go, clients will be able to see examples of different Fraser Valley locations and understand what kind of portraits each place is suited for.
Locations may include river trails, lake spots, mountain-view areas, wildflower fields, forest paths, farm and heritage settings, and downtown Chilliwack corners. The final guide will be shaped by real sessions, real light, and real local conditions.
I’ll be photographing a small number of guide-style sessions as part of this project. There is no session fee for these volunteer-based sessions. Selected finished images may be provided depending on the final results from the session. Participants should be comfortable with selected images being used in the field guide, portfolio examples, website, and related Tyson Sawchuk Photography posts.
The purpose is simple: to create something useful, local, and visual while showing how much variety Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley have for outdoor portrait photography.
If you’re interested in being part of the Fraser Valley Photography Field Guide, message Tyson Sawchuk Photography to discuss the project and see if it’s a good fit.
